First developed in the 1970’s, they are backed by a long history of development, research and refinement making them an extremely effective treatment option. Gone are the chunky dental braces of the past, today’s braces are far more refined in their design. These braces are the most affordable and most widely-trusted of all teeth straightening options, making them a great smile maker!
Metal braces are fitted to the front of the teeth, and are joined together using high-strength, flexible metal wires that are carefully and systematically adjusted to move your teeth into position. Over time this will alter the position of your teeth, allowing you to have a straighter smile than ever before.
Treatment with this type of braces starts with your orthodontist carefully formulating a customised plan to suit your needs. Brackets and wires are then individually placed on your teeth according to this plan. Regular checkups allow alterations to be made, wires adjusted, which allows your teeth to be gradually moved to their pre-determined positions.
Once treatment is complete, a retainer is recommended to prevent your teeth from moving out of alignment.
Daily life with metal braces is very similar to that of daily life with clear braces.

We are essentially giving your teeth a good work out and this feeling is very similar to muscle tenderness you get after exercise and will go away. With braces, dental hygiene is more important than ever to avoid potential plaque build-up or staining. Some foods should be avoided as these can damage braces. Foods to avoid include overly sticky or hard foods like toffee or hard sweets.
