Clear Ceramic Braces

Discreet orthodontics

Ceramic braces are an orthodontic treatment that uses clear or tooth-colour ceramic brackets instead of stainless steel. The ceramic material is key to making them less visible than traditional metal braces. Ceramic braces are a popular alternative offering discreet and effective treatment for straightening crooked teeth. Clear braces can still use a stainless steel archwire allowing for efficient treatments and proven orthodontic results.

Benefits of braces

  • Correct bite function and jaw alignment
  • Improve alignment of crooked teeth
  • Reduce premature wear of teeth and tooth enamel
  • Enhance self-confidence
  • Improve overall health and wellbeing

Ceramic Braces in Cheltenham

Ceramic braces are becoming popular for teenagers and adults who want an effective treatment that looks almost invisible. Clear braces are made from ceramic or non-metallic materials. They can be more comfortable than metal braces as they have fewer edges that can irritate the tongue, cheeks and gums.

Your orthodontist will customise your braces and orthodontic treatment plan to your exact needs. A tailored treatment plan allows our orthodontists to achieve predictable results and optimal treatment lengths.

For the best results with braces, we recommend patients:

  • Follow the recommended oral hygiene routine by brushing and flossing daily
  • Wearing orthodontic appliances and elastics as instructed
  • Appreciate that desired results take time and are worth the wait
  • Follow their orthodontic treatment plan

How do ceramic braces work?

Clear and ceramic braces are a variation of the highly efficient and proven metal counterparts. Ceramic braces function by moving teeth into the desired position using a gradual pressure. Your orthodontist attaches the ceramic brackets to the front of your teeth and then connects them using an archwire. The archwire is responsible for gradual tooth movements eventually shifting teeth into their optimal position.

Our orthodontists achieve the discreet appearance of ceramic braces by using ceramic or tooth-coloured material for the brackets. This allows us to remove a large portion of metal components and reduces the visibility of the braces. Our orthodontists can also match ceramic braces with a tooth-coloured archwire. This further reduces the visibility of the orthodontic appliance.

Your journey with clear braces starts the same way as all orthodontic treatments do:

  1. You meet your orthodontist for an initial consultation.
  2. Your orthodontist prepares a tailored orthodontic treatment plan.
  3. During your fitting appointment, the orthodontist will place brackets on your teeth and connect them with an archwire.
  4. Adjustment appointments occur every 4-6 weeks and ensure gradual progress towards a straighter smile is on schedule.
  5. Once the orthodontist removes your braces, you will receive a retainer to be worn. The retainer ensures that your teeth stay in the optimal position following treatment.

Clear ceramic braces offer the benefits of traditional braces with a more discreet appearance. That being said, you do need to take care of your braces during your treatment:

  1. Caring for your braces includes avoiding overly chewy or crunchy foods that may cause damage to your braces.
  2. Ensure you brush and floss your teeth regularly and thoroughly to prevent discolouration and plaque buildup.
  3. You may experience some discomfort following the fitting or adjustment of your braces. This is completely normal and passes quickly. If you have sensitive teeth and gums, over-the-counter pain medication can provide temporary relief.

Like most orthodontic treatments, the cost depends on the complexity of your case. Ceramic braces are generally more expensive than metal braces. This is due to the more expensive manufacturing process when compared to traditional braces.

At MP Orthodontics, we provide payment plans and finance options to help you in achieving your new smile.

Treatment plan lengths vary due to the complexity of the individual case. Some minor orthodontic cases can be treated in as little as 6 months. Generally speaking, the average treatment length is closer to 18-24 months.

Your orthodontist will explain the expected treatment length during your initial consultation.
