FAQ
So you’re getting orthodontic treatment and have some questions. No problem! Let’s answer them right here.
Every patient is unique, meaning that every treatment is individual too. Generally, full braces treatment lasts an average 18 to 24 months. Treatments that correct skeletal growth imbalances usually have a longer duration. Other straightening treatments focusing purely on the cosmetic alignment of the teeth such as Invisalign can be completed in a shorter time frame, even within six months to 12 months.
As each person’s needs are different, we tailor our approach to ongoing support beyond your initial treatment.
Supervised retention is included in braces treatment for a period of two years, however, should other needs arise during this time, we will work with you to develop an ideal solution.

Orthodontic treatment requires multiple appointments, however we take all care to work availability in with busy work and school schedules.
It is advisable to book appointments in advance, prior to leaving your current appointment. That way, we have more opportunity to accommodate your specific needs.

While orthodontic emergencies are rare, MP Orthodontics maintains an after hours contact service. We pride ourselves on promptly responding to the immediate concerns of our patients, including on evenings and weekends. Many issues can be resolved over the phone, however, if it is necessary to see you in the practice, we will accommodate you in our schedule.
While no referral is needed to see an orthodontist, we encourage our patients to work in conjunction with their dentist. We believe this provides the best foundation for achieving an ideal treatment outcome for you.
We also appreciate and welcome recommendations from our friends and patients who don’t have a referral.

In the early stages, there will be some pressure as teeth start moving through the gum and the bone. However, this usually only lasts for a few days on average and nothing that can’t be managed with only mild pain relief. If you have any concerns about your braces, be sure to get in touch with us and we’ll answer any questions or address any concerns.
Braces work by applying steady pressure to the teeth, gently and gradually moving them into new positions. Each wire and rubber band in the braces works like a spring. The force created by these wires or bands is used to move teeth steadily into new positions.
