Orthodontic treatment
The treatment time can vary from person to person. Treatment with traditional fixed braces usually takes between one and two years. We would love to discuss how we can help you get your confidence back with the best treatment pathway that suits your unique situation.
Why is orthodontic treatments needed?
There may be several reasons why it’s important to correct your teeth. You may not be happy with your appearance, you be experiencing discomfort, or you may just wish to prevent issues occurring in the future. The most common cause of needing orthodontic treatment is when you have something wrong with your bite alignment. Braces can be used to treat overbites, underbites, deep bites and resolve crowded teeth or unaesthetic spaces.
Aesthetics
Childhood, teenage years and adult years with crooked, crowded or protruding teeth can lead to a lack in confidence. For many in this situation, the opportunity to have adult braces and finally obtain a straight and attractive smile is highly desired.
Health
A healthy jaw, gums and teeth mean that as adults, we are likely to be able to keep our teeth longer. As an adult (or a child for that matter), crooked teeth can be more challenging to keep clean than well-aligned teeth. Therefore, the choice of orthodontic treatment is not based upon ‘looks’ only, but also as an investment in healthy teeth for the future. A good bite will lead to less wear, and less impact on the jaw joint whereas a poor bite can lead to headaches and neck ache with associated increased pressure on the jaw joint.

Removable braces
A removable brace is most often used in the treatment of a minor bite error or when children still have milk teeth. In some cases, you should use the brace throughout the day except when eating and brushing your teeth and in other instances only at night.
Traditional fixed braces
If teeth are to be moved, a brace that is fixed is most common. Braces are fitted to the front of the teeth and are joined together using high-strength, flexible metal wires that are carefully and systematically adjusted to move your teeth into position. Over time this will alter the position of your teeth, allowing you to have a straighter smile.

Choosing the best style of braces depends on a case by case basis. Adults, like children, can choose between Invisalign, ceramic or porcelain braces, lingual braces, the much-improved metal braces and also self-ligating braces which are available in both metal and clear.
